Ian Tamblyn: songwriter, musician, playwright, record producer, explorer, photographer... and more. Creative diversity and cross-disciplinary connections are central to his work. He has recorded 21 albums as well as numerous soundtracks for theatre and film. A recent tribute album, Coastline of Our Dreams, features an array of noted Canadian artists performing Ian's songs to celebrate his songwriting excellence.
In recent years, Ian's close association with adventure travel and scientific expeditions has taken him from the icebergs of Greenland to the underwater world of Antarctica. Many of these adventures have found their way into his songs and instrumental recordings. His brand-new CD, Superior: Spirit and Light, is the first of four CDs in the ambitious Four Coast Project that will feature musical portraits of different coastal regions of Canada - Lake Superior and Northwest Ontario, the Pacific Northwest coast, the Arctic coast, and the Labrador/Newfoundland coast.
Ian is the recipient of many awards, including the prestigious Estelle Klein Award from the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals, the Jackie Washington Award presented at the Northern Lights Festival, a Japanese music award, an Honorary Doctorate from Lakehead University, and the Helen Verger Award presented at the Ottawa Folk Festival to honour his outstanding contributions.
In addition to developing his own multi-faceted creative expression, Ian has selflessly applied his talents to further the careers of his contemporaries and younger musicians. As a record producer and as a founder of the original Acoustic Waves concert series at 910 Gladstone Avenue, he has worked with many diverse talents over the years. One of his most outstanding contributions has been the example he has provided to others. Through his musical excellence, his constant willingness to expand his artistic horizons, his strong work ethic and his irrepressible sense of humour, Ian Tamblyn has inspired musicians and audiences across Canada and around the world.

J.P. Cormier began playing guitar at age 5 and quickly became immersed in the rich musical heritage of his Cape Breton roots. At 9 he won his first guitar competition and was acknowledged as a prodigy. By his mid-teens, it seemed he could play any instrument he picked up. His guitar playing shone with the flawless execution of tunes learned from the records of giants like Chet Atkins and Doc Watson. He soon became equally adept on fiddle, banjo and mandolin
At age 16, J.P. recorded his first album, a collection of bluegrass instrumentals. Subsequent touring performances led to a move to the United States for ten years of session work and live appearances, including many memorable nights at the Grand Ole Opry with such notable artists as Waylon Jennings, Marty Stuart, Earl Scruggs and Bill Monroe. Since returning to Canada, J.P. has released ten award winning recordings. The title track from J.P.’s Juno-nominated CD, Another Morning, has been covered by countless artists across North America and beyond. His impressive body of work has earned him a loyal fan base with multiple award nominations and wins.
J.P. Cormier brings his dazzling compositions and fingerwork to the Fourth Stage in this much-anticipated concert on November 8.

Her energetic fiddle style possesses a youthful exuberance, grounded in her strong classical training. Sarah is also an accomplished singer, and her CD entitled Sarah'ndipity features several beautiful Celtic ballads. The CD won the Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Young Performer in December, 2006. Sarah's talents have been featured at the Ottawa Folk Festival, the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, and two European tours.

Dervish is a stellar Irish band consisting of Cathy Jordan (vocals, bodhrán and bones), Tom Morrow (fiddle), Shane Mitchell (accordion), Brian McDonagh (mandola), Liam Kelly (flute and whistles), and Michael Holmes (bouzouki). The band, which started from the simple idea of a group of musicians recording traditional Irish music together for the sheer love of it, has grown to become one of the most important and accomplished bands in Ireland. Dervish CDs and live performances have been met with enormous critical acclaim from fans, journalists and fellow musicians the world over. |
| |
Spanning a myriad of tones and moods, Dervish concerts feature high-energy tunes played with intuition and fluidity, charming songs with lyrics about life and love, and inspiring, beautifully-arranged melodies that lift audiences from their seats. All of these elements are drawn together by Cathy Jordan’s masterful stage presence. Her between-song stories and her easy interaction with the audience draw people into the music in a way very few performers can achieve. |

The Ottawa Folk Festival and the National Arts Centre are joining forces to present legendary blues musician Ray Bonneville in concert at the Library and Archives Canada Auditorium on Saturday, March 8. A superb songwriter, guitarist, vocalist and harmonica player, Ray is known for his ability to create a deep, compelling groove that generates feelings of joy in any audience. On the guitar, Ray's right thumb works the bass line as his index finger pulls out the melody and his palm slaps out snare-like rhythms. At the same time, Ray's weathered voice and soulful harmonica trade riffs as his foot stomps out irresistible rhythms on the amplified piece of plywood that travels with him wherever he goes. |
| |
Ray won a Juno Award for his "Gust of Wind" CD, and received Juno nominations for two others. His latest album, "Goin' by Feel", was released on the Red House Records label in January, 2008.

Richie Havens is gifted with one of the most recognizable voices in popular music. His fiery, poignant, always soulful singing style has remained unique and ageless since he first emerged from the Greenwich Village folk scene in the early 1960’s. It’s a voice that has inspired and electrified audiences from the Woodstock Music & Arts Fair in 1969, to the Clinton Presidential Inauguration in 1993 - coming full circle with the 30th Woodstock Anniversary celebration, "A Day In The Garden", in 1999.
For over three decades, Richie has used his music to convey messages of brotherhood and personal freedom. With more than twenty-five albums released and a touring schedule that would kill many a younger man, he continues to view his calling as a higher one. As he told The Denver Post, "I really sing songs that move me. I’m not in show business, I’m in the communications business. That’s what it’s about for me".

Originally from Prince Edward Island and now based in Halifax, Catherine MacLellan is the daughter of Canadian singer/songwriter and music legend, Gene MacLellan, the writer of international hit songs such as "Snowbird" (Anne Murray) and "Put Your Hand In The Hand" (Ocean). "I grew up watching him write songs in the living room with pen and paper or with a guitar on his lap... I am really proud to be his daughter and to be able to follow a little in his footsteps." Catherine's talents have been recognized with two 2005 PEI Music Awards for her CD "Dark Dream Midnight" and four 2006 Awards for Church Bell Blues, as well as multiple East Coast Music Award nominations for those same albums.
