Music Legend Kris Kristofferson to Perform at Ottawa Folk Festival
August 16-19, 2007
Britannia Park

March 28, 2007 – The Ottawa Folk Festival is pleased to announce that Kris Kristofferson will headline the 2007 Festival. Kristofferson will perform on the Festival Main Stage on Friday evening, August 17. The Festival runs from Thursday, August 16 to Sunday, August 19 at beautiful Britannia Park.

“ Kris Kristofferson is one of America’s best songwriters and a living legend,” says Festival Artistic Director Chris White. “This is his only Canadian festival date and definitely a performance not to be missed!”

Kris Kristofferson has had a storied career as a songwriter, singer and actor. His songs have been made famous by other singers, notably Janis Joplin (“Me and Bobby McGee”), Ray Price (“For the Good Times”), and Johnny Cash (“Sunday Morning Coming Down”). Johnny Cash was one of Kristofferson’s musical heroes and the inspiration for his song “The Pilgrim.”

Kristofferson’s latest album, This Old Road, has been described as “the most intensely personal album of his career” and features the artist, his guitar and his harmonica. Released last year, the album contains 11 songs that explore love, gratitude, aging, war and freedom.

On April 16, 2007, Kristofferson will receive the Johnny Cash Visionary Award at the CMT Music Awards. The award recognizes his extraordinary musical vision, innovative and groundbreaking music, and pioneering initiatives in entertainment. Kristofferson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004.

“The Ottawa Folk Festival has grown to be a world-class event, and we’re looking forward to our best festival yet. Our plans to improve bus transportation to the site will make it easier than ever for more people to enjoy this year’s spectacular offerings,” says Festival Executive Director Tamara Kater.

Earlybird Festival passes go on sale on Saturday, March 31. The four-day passes are $60 and will be on sale until May 22 or sold out. Advance Friday-only passes will go on sale in May and will cost $35.
